i was asked to style a creative for wilkosz and way. this weekend i ventured out to the stores to get some goodies and we spent a large part of sunday shooting. lovely reena was our model and alicja did the makeup. i've styled shoots for me and jason before but never for another model, so this was most definitely a good experience. not nearly as scary as i have made myself believe. nevertheless, i wanted to be ready with options, scissors, lint brushes, clips and beyond, all these things i've picked up over the years of standing in front of the camera. it was quite chilly outside, i was partly prepared for the fact that the model will probably have to freeze her tushy off but at the same time i know how it is to be in those shoes so the big furry jacob jacket i got proved to be quite helpful, so thanks jacob for this significant contribution. the returns commence tomorrow. the results coming soon... go team!
lazy saturday morning
yes, as usual i am too slow to take care of all the things i plan, so i just end up lounging around instead. in fact if it wasn't for the bare trees i kind of felt very la this morning, with steve miller band playing on my ipod and the flowy fabric of the top, it all added to a little magical moment. after picking up some clothes for tomorrow's shoot, we came back home and had big plans to go out and take some photos, especially in light of this wonderful day. but because i took forever preparing the bags for tomorrow's shenanigans all you get today is a peak at this new kimono i got at the new forever 21 that opened in calgary yesterday. i nearly missed it too, not realizing it was already october 29th. next week we're getting urban outfitters. i might want to re-evaluate going to stores right at opening, the line ups, and the people, too are just insane. the rest of today i am planning to relax and keep charlie long deserved company. no plans for halloween after all. i hope you all have a wonderful saturday. xoxo (lasenza bra, forever 21 kimono top)
grey day
speaking of furry little things, the obsession with faux fur continues. this time with a snood (haha who comes up with all these ridiculous names). everything is starting to look the same to me under the dreary grey sky. time did not permit to find a more aesthetically pleasant spot today so we did it on the way to buy fruit, in the process of which, the tip of my heel fell off and i ended up walking around with a nail poking out from the bottom of my shoe, not a good feeling, especially that there is a protruding bone on my opposite foot making walking on that one quite uncomfortable. there is no obvious solution so i suck it up and hope it goes away, until then i will continue wearing heels. needless to say there will be no close up of the shoes today. life is just not getting any easier. the skirt reminds me of an almost identical one that my grandma used to wear every day, i bought it for that very reason but it turns out it's quite functional. too bad you have to wear heels with it. xoxo (zara snood, h&m blazer, zara wool skirt and shoes, aldo gloves)
felice (felee-ch-ey)
our family increased by one member today. a cute little kitten (duh!) he is going to be my nephew's new friend. for a second i thought i was going to take him home because we were unable to find anyone who would take him and i was not going to let him go to the spca. we all know how those stories end :( but happily ever after, felice is now in his new home exploring and playing and sleeping. i hope he doesn't miss home too long and gets used to his new environment fast. nothing to break your heart like a crying little kitten. awwww <3
fall-ing
i found my long overdue camel coat for the fall. just as it started to snow. it fits me like a big comfy bathrobe, i can't get enough. i had a hard time trying to decide whether or not to purchase the faux fur stole. on one hand it's tres chic, on another i did not love it at first sight. but sometimes you have to see it in action to believe it. and so i saw it on courtney one day when we went for coffee. anything looks amazing on that girl, so i was immediately sold. lucky for me the rest of the city does not think along the same lines so there was plenty left in stock. this look, it seems, is highly inspired by vanessa's stylings of the previous night. i also figured out a way to take photos in daylight-lunch time, who needs to eat after all, it's a win win situation. with halloween approaching i am reminded more and more about how every year i've been wanting to dress up as karl lagerfeld (is that becoming a cliche halloween costume? i almost feel like it is) somehow i'm always too busy or too tired to participate. three whole days left. plenty of planning time. (zara camel coat, h&m faux fur stole, aldo gloves and shoes, zara wallet)
after my job tonight at an event for swarovski we stopped by the studio, where i live now btw, to visit the set for the first edition of 'monday night love'. and unless the name changed since the last time i heard it, there was plenty of it going around. the lovely lauren barrie modeled so we had to go and say hello. hotness that girl is! of course we didn't leave without some of our own fun. i'll be sleeping off the exhaustion of the past weeks events for the next month. i better get started now. cheers (zara leopard coat)
polaroid preview: hard
a quick preview of sunday night. excuse the cirles under the eyes. the digital ones will make me look 10 years younger i promise. xoxo
hard
last night after the woman's show i headed straight to the studio to do a creative with jason. this time we assembled quite the impressive team, we had jennie from holt renfrew come and style for us and alicja wilkosz do the makeup, as usual alicja pulled through with some impressive smokey eye action! (uhhh THE hardest thing to do in my opinion, how not to make oneself look like a freakin' raccoon) jennie was new to all of us so we didn't know what to expect but she sure delivered, she pulled amazing looks from the holt closet, furs, leathers, mcqueen, wang and helmut lang. it feels so good to put on something expensive and pretend it's yours for a couple of minutes. that alone makes the job worthwhile. she also planted the seed of a new purchase in my head (shh! i won't let out the secret yet). it was one of the funnest shoots i've done in a while, having everyone stick around for the shoot created good energy and really maintained a great flow. i am excited to see the final product. it'll definitely be different from what we have been doing lately. on the way home we spotted some deer in the middle of the industrial park. it was a weird sighting. but here they are in all their glory. <3
what: the calgary woman's show when: october 23&24th where: the roundup center
i spent this weekend working at the woman's show on the stampede grounds. it's always nice to come back to where everything started. it was during the stampede not the woman's show, but since we are no longer entertaining during the summer months now is all i have. it's always great to catch up with all the models and friends, this year we were greatly surprised when arianna joined us (second photo from the top). many of us have not seen her in years and she is always ready to make things interesting, she is THE best story teller i know. apart from always being professional, it's really just like spending time with family, i would never consider it work. i asked my dad to come down and take some photos... well there is only so much you can expect when you ask someone else to do your job, but i can't be two places at once and i have never seen photos from the woman's show anywhere, so voila! here we are. the clothes, are at times questionable and the lighting kind of makes us look like we are telling camping stories, but hey, as long as the audience enjoys it then we've done our job and somehow i think they always do (especially during the last show when i tripped over my own feet while opening the show ha! oops!), it is always a success. i left for the weekend with a bag full of cat food samples and flyers-they always stock you up nicely on all things you could possibly want but never knew you did, in fact it takes quite the will power to walk through all the booths and not drop a couple hundred dollars, especially, i find, as you're getting older. yikes!
