extra extra read all about it

this is completely earth shattering news for me, because i just get so excited about stuff like that but seriously look at these shorts! i just went to the singer22 site to look at some of the jeans i am about to review and these are on full display. i may be one of the last people who has seen them (maybe not) but i am freaking out! i want a pair so bad (too bad i just booked my poland flight because now i can't just go ahead and buy a $150 pair of shorts) but look at the studs! and OMG the american flag one! aaaaaaa *angels singing* where were you on our american road trip! so good! think about me when you purchase your pair because i think everyone should have these. <3

19 days and counting

you so don't want to know what the weather is like right now. i'm actually sitting by a window watching a nice snow storm rolling through town... again. it's not that big of a shocker, i built a snowman on our balcony in may one year, but seriousely ever since i started my blog and weather has become such a crucial part of what i do it's really getting on my nerves. these were taken just three days ago, i actually wore shorts, mind you it was only anout ten degrees, but it seems the longer i live in canada the higher tolerance for cold i get... well obviousely not that much higher. and i have to say the stark white legs kind of give it away that we haven't seen the sun in about ten months. so i apologize in advance, or at all since you are most likely reading this after you saw the pictures. we drive by this mini scrap yard everyday and finally it was nice enough to take some photos in front of the cars. only three more days of slaving away at work. phew! what a month this was, but i already have my spa day booked for ultimate relaxation time (massage, facia and pedicure... all three of which i desperately need and worked hard for) AND greatest (but bitter sweet) news is that i am going to poland! already booked my ticket for may 19th. my parents are selling the apartment in which i grew up in so this is bound to be an emotional trip for me but so excited that i am actually in a position to say i'm going and have a flight booked that same day. speaking of travel, did you watch last night's episode of america's next top model? the girls are now in morocco, it's so fun to watch after being there and being able to call bull shit on nearly everything they show. even my monkey made it to tv (i hope peta got on that one fast). if you weren't around for my post from marrakech you can read all about it here. let me just say that much like any photo from morocco, the show did NOT do the place any justice (and that's not a compliment).

400!

photos by jason eng (h&m jeans, zara leather jacket, just female top, tophop shoes, rita tesolin necklace)

finally i get to share with you what i've been working on to celebrate my 400 followers. 200 is after all a milestone and since i did something for the last 200 i felt it only appropriate to follow it up. the problem was that i was trying to find something new that i have not done before. it can not after all be any regular post. after careful thought i decided it was time to learn how to do video. jason helped me take some better photos, which totally look like they could be a creative (applause) and then we goofed around with my camera to take the video. neither of us has ever touched that feature so this was a hilarious attempt at serious film making. i was honestly scared to death to sit by my mac and open up imovie, except it turned out that these macs are after all super user friendly and nothing could be easier (here i will encourage every single one of you to try it at least once, i for one will be obsessed with making movies this summer, like fully committed). after an hour of trying to figure out the sequence of clips, the saturation and the music, i had on my hands my first video. i have to tell you it was such a proud moment poor rob still has to watch it ten times a day. i initially thought of creating some elaborate outfit but in the end i just wanted to be myself and nothing better suits me at this particular moment in time than my favourite leather jacket. so here i am just the way i am, no embellishments. in any case i really wanted to thank every single one of my readers (those on google connect and all the others) who visit and read my blog daily, i would not be putting the time and effort that i do if it wasn't for you, this blog has grown so much since the first day i posted that infamous native head dress photo and then after my first outfit (boy has a lot changed since then). i hope to be able to grow and evolve with all of you and i hope that i can continue to successfully share with you all my obsessions and hopefully one day have a chance to take you even further into the world of fashion and blogging. so cheers to you and to the next 400! LOVE YOU ALL. xoxo

market collective

calgary's market collective is happening this weekend. the perfect weather is forcing a lot of people out of the house. the streets are alive again and there's no better way of celebrating spring than going down, seeing some friends, making new ones and getting a little inspired. lots of jewellery at this months event. you can get some stellar hoods (if you missed my interview with megan click here) and peeko apparel is on location as well selling some beautiful chiffon ballerina skirts, her infamous turbans and amazing jewellery (see pictures of brook and her jewellery above). oh yes and did i mention the burritos, a day and a half meals worth wrapped in one healthy snack. you have one more chance tomorrow if you don't make it down today. for more information about the market collective visit their site, http://www.marketcollective.ca/

revival

(white zara blazer and sunnies, american apparel sexuali tee, jbrand jeans, aldo heels)

i wanted to get myself into more pants, i've noticed lately i've been wearing skirts the whole time and of course i go for a similar color scheme as my color blocking post, i guess that much brightness kind of leaves a mark on a person. so this one will be short and sweet. for those interested this is NOT what i have been planning for my 400th follower post, that one is still coming, this much hype i'm sure is totally getting your hopes up high. i have been backed up at work that i'm a little behind, but it shouldn't be much longer so keep checking. i hope you don't mind that i bumped up the contrast on these way high. i remember i was obsessed with high contrast photos for the longest time (ie. on my morocco/spain trip last summer) and somehow that turned into loving everything cool. i don't want to say that i am back to my old ways (especially because all my photographer friends are probably shaking their heads at me) but i think it looks pretty cool with the bright pink and orange, an 80's revival in full blast (i was trying to figure out a way to put 'blast off' into this post but this is the best i came up with), oh yes and i found this white blazer when cleaning my closet the other day, and realized i have to wear it before it's not white anymore. as to the closet cleaning situation, as i told you before i will be creating a separate blog in hopes of selling some of my clothes. i will let you know the address when it's up and running so you can check it out, and just a heads up, i have got a LOT of stuff.

ps. it's still windy shitty out here

fabricated @ the grand

garrett naccarato, yana matusovski and jordan reimer aka. the team behind kruhx.com

by no means do i want this to sound like a review. after missing both the park industry mixer (because i was in new york) and the park show (because i was in toronto) i was very excited, and determined to be able to make it to fabricated. put on by brook fung of peeko apparel together with a team of creative and fashion forward friends, fabricated had a similar mission statement as that of park, that, in a nutshell, its goal is to promote local designers by giving them an avenue to showcase their work. by putting on this show it creates an opportunity for all facets of the calgary fashion industry to get involved, from media, hair and makeup, models and agencies and local businesses (ala fashion week on a smaller scale). and thank goodness! as wonderful as it is to have fashion week that actually comes back season to season what lacks is fashion events in between. if it were up to me, we would be having these every week. it's a fantastic opportunity to network, catch up and meet  people with fashion on their minds.

i was late coming to the vip meet and greet with the designers but when i arrived the room was packed with photographers, stylists, editors, makeup artists, bloggers and fashion lovers of all other trades. the venue itself i have to say was top notch. i've been to the grand theatre once before for an acoustic performance by metric, i never realized that the space accommodated rearrangements (think college gym and sliding bleachers, but with theatre seats and completely black interior). the runway was sleek and simple, it was a great setup. vanessa lynn cuppen mc'ed the event. once the shows started it was all about the accessories for me, peeko had some fabulous head pieces, feathers, pom poms and chains, jalu had amazing... AMAZING jewellery.

the models rocked all four shows. there were some technical issues with the music and speed, apiana que sent one girl out for the final peel (i am still trying to figure that one out) and one girl insisted on making her mistakes painfully obvious (note: if you make a mistake just carry on and act like it wasn't a mistake at all, the audience doesn't know what's supposed to happen, when you actually say 'oh my god' on the runway, while your walking and go back to fix it... yea, then we know), as a model i credit it to inexperience, and after my epic fall earlier this year i know there is nowhere else to go but up. the music choices were not ideal in my opinion, there is nothing like a high energy beat to sell the clothes, don't they say that music releases endorphins and makes for happy shoppers? just a thought, i realize that artists suffer from chronic melancholia but do we have to as well as a result? haithem elkadiki (kaadiki) on the other hand had it all figured out and totally knew how to work it. his show by far stood out, his bow, impeccable, with so many models and looks it felt like no time at all, it makes for a great flow, and the audience noticed. it was definitely a great way to close the night (also kudos on the styling by leah van loon for this one). the hair was stunning, i personally congratulated jereme on the great job his team did with all the looks. hed kandi always turns it on.

i spent the evening sharing 'the pit' with all the photographers, who welcomed me ever so kindly (i am looking at you paul spenard), josephine and her husband right by my side, it was great having so many familiar faces around. to top it off i finally met the beautiful kim from calgaryfashion.ca who sorted us out with some vip seats. i always had an image of her in my mind but it's kind of impossible to match the real person to a photograph, coincidentally that is exactly what everyone says about me. it was also great to see some bloggers from toronto come and support our local fashion scene (and they will have nothing but great things to take back with them after tonight i hope).

it's so so very inspiring to see all these things happening and coming out of the woodwork in calgary. the interest of everybody around us spiking even compared to one year ago. it's refreshing to see designers use real quality models in their shows, girls who have great walks and sell the clothes instead of focusing on what the floor looks like from where they're standing. overall it was a very successful evening. as i'm sitting here typing people are still buzzing about the event. i am anxious to post about it so you get a 'straight off the runway' kind of report. maybe also because i now want to concentrate all my efforts on thinking of the sam edelman lorissa shoes i may, or may not be getting tomorrow together with some reportedly amazing helmut lang pieces that landed on the holt renfrew shelves in the last couple of days. with this cheery thought i will say goodnight and have a good rest of the weekend. for some more photos from fabricated visit my facebook page. on a side note, until i figure out how to pose for 'real' photos i will leave myself out of them.  xoxo
i am the furthest from loving underwear (in the sense that women are usually expected to be obsessed over underwear...??). regardless, i am in love with this set that i received after my ck job last night at the motionball event. the lingerie was beautiful, as ck always seems to be. the crowd was loving every second of it, the women going especially crazy over the boys in briefs... as usual. i am disappointed i missed the performance by shawn deman (oh yeeeea!), it would have been quite hilarious to watch as i am totally, and unsuccessfully, closeting my love with his latest song. i have searched high and low for photos from the show, unfortunately not everyone is such a hyper updater like me. rob really needs to consider assisting me full time. fabricated finally took place and i have loads to share with you, it's kind of a shame at the same time because what will we be looking forward to now? it seems after a week long of parties, events and openings it might just as well be ghost town around here... maybe spring will grace us with her presence finally? guess you can't have it all. xoxo

a shade of purplish red

(zara leather jacket and shoes, h&m oversized shirt and leggings, jennifer zeuner necklace)

the weekend is here! i honestly thought i never see the day. i was so busy everyday from 8am to midnight that the time just felt like it stood still. i love being busy but this was a little crazy. with the madness that is work, staring at the computer all day, having a million and one things to deal with the work that came extra was especially exhausting. but i made it and i can't wait to sleep in and let those eyes regenerate. it'll have to wait till tomorrow though. tonight is the fabricated event which everyone has been waiting for, it will be great to see everything from the venue to the fashions to the people. if you  are looking for more information in hopes to attend the even visit their facebook page here. i have yet to decide what to wear, perhaps a browse at zara wouldn't hurt, or maybe better yet one through my own closet. after going to the h&m event this burgundy shit has been on my mind. i got one just like it in new york in a lighter colour, but this shade totally sold me on this one. i went back the next day to get it, it wrinkles so easily but the style is so fantastic i almost don't even mind. it reminds me of the nahm stuff that i saw at their new york presentation (click here for a recap), maybe less heavy in design and actual fabric but at least it wasn't $1,000 (look at these saving savvy ways). this afternoon i'll be at the free people event at the bay, love the brand and the bay downtown has been getting some really nice stuff, so come stop by and say hello if you happen to be in the area. photos by rb. xoxo

ps. 3 more people till 400 followers. i will try to do something special again for the next 200 mark (remember my lanvin bath for 200? it's still one of my favourite posts)

shiny, pretty things

(left, ysl rouge volupte no. 17 red muse, right, ysl rouge pur couture no. 13 le orange)

i am in love with all the ysl makeup packaging. it not only looks expensive but it's heavy, which, in my silly consumer mind seems like a direct equivalent of good quality. i have yet to sample these beauties, opting out for the classic red (in different shades) yet again (who knows how many red lipsticks i have), if you don't wear much makeup you just gotta stick with what works, and maybe fresh out of the box lipsticks are also really fun to photograph.

week-end update

(bellissima top and cargo pants, forever 21 shoes)

this somehow feels like a lazy outfit post because it's been taken so long ago (i.e. 1 week), there is no snow on the ground anymore, despite the weatherman's magical predictions (keeping those fingers crossed). i don't want to be excusing myself in anyway but i have noticed that it's been 4 days since my last post-unthinkable. where i usually try to stay on top of the game it has been really difficult this week with so much going on. tonight i went to the new h&m opening here in calgary-miraculously we have the trend line, all 10% of it *sad*, but it's something, maybe at the next opening they will actually have good stuff? i guess now we go back and check every week (or so). i was so preoccupied i didn't take photos, and i really didn't want to be taking pictures of store displays, you all know what they look like. the appetizers were fantastic (cream filled gooseberry mini pie anyone!) and i did run into a lot of familiar faces.  now i sift through tonight's purchases and decide what to keep and what to return, also i will be 'distressing' a couple basic t-shirts i got. i will bring you the results this weekend. xoxo
