danny

FABULOUS is the only way to sum up today. we got to shoot danny. an early day for saturday, because at 7.30 i was up throwing clothes from my closet into a suitcase hoping something will materialize in a burst of inspiration. i picked up danny and we headed straight to alicja's house where she did danny's first professional makeup. i was so excited for the whole process considering this was the first experience of this kind for him. we wanted a completely androgynous look, i think a learning experience for all of us since we don't exactly get to shoot amazing people like this around the city too often. i think the final results were and are going to be amazing. very rock and roll (hello! my favourite theme!). i was so excited at the studio i was literally jumping up and down. and what an amazing day it was, after all was over i felt totally high on creativity, or some form of it anyway. i always thought styling other models was never my thing but it turns out you only need to have an inspiring subject. i can not express enough how amazing this boy is and how grateful i am that he popped up into our (un)seemingly boring lives. and i really have my blog to thank, if i never got down from those bleachers to take his photo we would all be potato farmers by now. serendipity at it's finest. xoxo

@chromeo

in my search for a more fulfilled youth i decided i will be going dancing a lot more often. i walked past a poster for the chromeo show on 17th avenue last week and got a couple of tickets straight away. the show last year was so so good i would gladly go every single time they are in town. 2011 was not as satisfying for me personally, i felt not only did the show take a while to start but also the energy was just not there. the band more than made up for it towards the end of the set with two step and needy girl (my personal favourite) but the highlight was our brief twitter exchange, and that's how you know i am a total social media geek. overall the night was a success, i ended up taking loads of people photos, surprisingly not meeting with a single refusal or even hesitation. not contributing this entirely to alcohol but drunk people may not be as bad as i thought. the show really attracted some amazing styles and personalities. i mean i should probably find out where they all hang out so i can actually live it, not just document it. more photos on my facebook page. xoxo

sean

remember sean? the blue eyed darling from my first stampede post. yes, how can you forget. well him and i went on a little evening stroll around nosehill park last week to take some photos. here are the results. i am extremely shy about my first semi-real photoshoot with another model. i have yet to decide whether i even like the responsibility to capture another person in a photograph with their full uninhabited consent, or whether i am even capable. i have one more idea i want to try before i give up entirely. maybe next time we can put some clothes on him. but probably not. xoxo

broken doll: spring/summer 2012

some shots from the new broken doll clothing for spring/summer 2012. i know right. way ahead, totally in a good way. wilkosz & way behind the camera and alicja wilkosz is fully responsible for makeup. every time that girl touches my face i wish that i had somewhere to go after the shoot, it's such a shame to waste <3. i remember i worked with leah for the first time so long ago when calgary first attempted their 'fashion week'... whatever year that was? geez, it was pre-facebook (can you even imagine life now without social media... clearly i can not). check out the rest of the photos here. xoxo

parkluxe 2011

mark august 26th in your calendars. park is hosting a fashion presentation of four designers in a brand new venue and with a brand new concept. jason eng shot the campaign for parkluxe on sunday and i came to watch. kristen dieter from sophia models international fit the bill perfectly. the clothes were to die for! pulls from holts, like the celine dress in photo #1 and the alexander wang cape shirt in photo # 4 > amazing! i will be posting the finished product when it's ready but i have to share these images while they are still hot. so good to see amazing things happening in calgary when it comes to fashion (or anything really). calvin klein would be so proud *tear*

bellissima 2011 preview

just shot for the fall/winter 2011 bellissima campaign with the amazing team: jennie lyle, jason eng, alicja wilkosz, jereme bokitch, shea kerwood and a new addition this year, maggie from imodel management. it was actually very nice having someone to shoot with, it's also always fun to watch someone else being photographed. a lot of people tend to find photoshoots a bit tedious and boring, but i could sit and watch all day. here are a couple of behind the scenes shots. i didn't have my trusty rb photography on site to man the camera so you have to do with what i had the chance to take myself. check out more snaps on the bellissima blog. tomorrow i will attempt to take photos of an actual model, which i think is quite the challenge for me. i shall keep you posted on how that goes, i guess you'll know depending on whether you see a post about it, fingers crossed. xoxo.

booked

just booked our trip to san francisco, i am so excited to finally get to see the city, will it be the perfect balance between new york and la?  la has thus far been my favorite place to go, if i only had more time... but the whole world is still waiting to be seen. i'll only be there for four days, the ideal amount to just get the taste of the place. what is your favorite spot to visit when you are in san francisco? recomendations are very welcome :) xoxo

stampede 2011: the afterthought p.2

for those of you who are following the conversation between me and my readers, under the last post i did on my trip to poland i received a lot of comments regarding the depiction of poland as a poor, post communist country, many people did not seem to be happy with this portrayal. i hope that the first couple of photos from this post make them see i am free of bias. this is my favourite set. apart from spotting an elle fanning lookalike (who may be a boy), danny monroe finally makes it to my blog (7th photo from the top). this 16 year old boy inspired me so much during the sophia models international model search and what more, he made it all the way to the top 10 finalists, i could hardly contain my excitement (i actually stayed for the final night just to cheer him on). stay on the lookout because i will make sure to snap some more photos of danny before he jets off to new york to become a superstar <3
