details 31.05.12

i know i promised to post the images for the second lifetime collective outfit today, but i thought i would give you all a break from the bombardment of outfit photos on the blog lately. on the same day we shot the outfits i stopped to look around my apartment and saw some pretty great details in my everyday existence. here are some photos i took just because. can you tell i'm obsessed with the cross (nothing religious, purely aesthetic).

wearing/stevie tank:lifetime collective look i

lifetime collective stevie tank, club monaco anorak, zara skirt & hat, aldo wedges

after a horrid day and a good couple hours watching crash course on you tube (and starting an episode of hart of dixie, yes my tv choices may sometimes be more questionable than others, however, think gilmore girls with chloe dresses, less witty dialogue and complete mental bubblegum) i am ready for a new day to start. no better way than to post something i've been working on and is finally ready to be shared with you. the wicked team behind lifetime collective, based out of vancouver, encouraged me to take part in their upcoming facebook style contest (up this morning). we shot some photos with the lifetime pieces over the weekend and here is my first look (second of the two coming tomorrow, or you can preview it now on facebook and instagram). go over to their facebook page (or CLICK HERE) to vote for your favourite looks. every voter will be entered to win one of five $50 gift cards to their online store. many of the guys that started the brand i've heard about through the grapevine and i'm always stoked to see and support a canadian brand emerge in the market. after all if we don't have each other we have no one. happy voting. xoxo

tyler: father john misty

even if you’ve never heard of joshua tillman or his stage name: father john misty, you’ve likely heard something he has been a part of. although born in maryland, tillman has been a part of the seattle music scene since his early twenties. from multiple solo albums to his participation in a handful of groups, perhaps the most notable being fleet foxes (for whom he was the drummer), tillman has been making music for a lot longer than you’d think. after four years in fleet foxes, tillman decided to leave in order to properly focus on his latest solo album. the album, titled ‘fear fun’ is a lot like a fleet foxes record in a few ways, but incredibly different in a lot more. it’s got shades of okkervil river, or maybe the national, if either of two bands came out of laurel canyon in the late 60’s. it’s steeped in lazy mythology, drunken ramblings, and a quality that is somewhat like a playful wink during a serious conversation. check out his appearance on letterman below (and possibly my favorite track off of the album).

scoop nyc top, gap jeans, topshop boots

i wish i had something profound to write for you today, unfortunately i spent the whole weekend trying to sell a bunch of my prized possessions in hopes of generating enough funds for my new camera (still the only thing on my mind), i even pawned my beautiful wang boots (you will be able to buy them on vestaire collective in a couple of days). another exciting development is that kara (of the park fame) and i will be having a clothing sale towards the end of june, details are still to come so stay tuned as i will be posting everything you need to know right here. photos by rb. xoxo

wearing/boyfriend jeans

truly madly deeply tee, zara jeans & heels

i went shopping last week, not just to zara to make sure i don't miss out on the latest delivery, i actually went to the mall, and browsed through stores to see whether anything catches my eye. shockingly enough, nothing, the stores are getting ready for sales now and spring selections nearly always dissapoint anyway, there is no time like spring to save up money for a fantastic trip abroad, or in my case, a new camera. i have been eyeing the canon 5D mark III camera across the street from my office for months now, and am nearing my goal in savings. the only thing i wish money could buy now is nice weather. you'd think that we'd be living in a rain forest with the amount of precipitation this city has been getting. one day i WILL have the perfect life.

feels like love for the first time

this season i've put clothes on hold and have been obsessing over shoes.

happy mother's day

i was asked to take part in the globe and mail mother's day special edition of the style section this month, i thought it was the greatest opportunity and a wonderful mother's day gift for my mum, you can't just buy memories like these. she came through amazingly, it was her first (well second) shoot now and she was such a great sport. it was also also a bitter sweet experience because this was the last shoot that wilkosz and way and i did in calgary, exactly one day before they were leaving for berlin. regardless the pictures of my mum and i are so wonderful, i will cherish them forever. and a huge thank you of course to tiyana grulovic from the globe and mail for making it all happen. i hope you all have a great mother's day with those special ladies in your lives. for all the other beautiful mums and their stylish children visit theglobeadmail.com or click here. i only had a change to quickly take photos of the paper this morning, so no fancy scans for you today, i will try to replace them with better quality images during the week sometime. xoxo

if i were riding a horse...

ksubi t-shirt, american apparel high waisted skinny jeans, vintage bag, jeffrey campbell flats

finally, i am not sick, i'm not working, i just have a full two days with no obligations or plans. my jeffrey campbell flats finally came in, despite of being sold out from every holt renfrew in this country (who seemingly are the only retailer who carry these studded beauties this season). it pays off to have an amazing shoe person in your shopping obsessed life (thank you very much miss torrun <3, if you ever need to get a hard to find pair she's your girl). my ksubi shirt also arrived (with an interesting 'detail' on the side seam), i had to make a few 'adjustments' to appear as if it actually fits me. i think progress has been made. i am also in full capacity to bike around the city again, and the weather is equally cooperating. so in short an amazing weekend. make sure to pick up a copy of the globe and mail today for a quick style feature on my mum and i, and of course let's not forget mother's day tomorrow. xoxo

wearing/summer patterns

zara top, vintage levi's shorts, muubaa leather jacket, steve madden boots

spring finally arrived, tax season is over and of course what happens? i get sick, my first free weekend in two months and i get to spend it in bed. the irony. trying to desperately grow my bangs out, i'm ready to embrace the sun (forehead included). i have been inspired by the black caps i've been seeing around so much lately, so i'm trying to embrace the trend, however, i don't wear hats enough to justify hunting for one i really love, so my black trucker hat will do for now (how ashton kutcher of me). also trying to plan a trip soon, it seems like a complete waste because we have been waiting for the sun so long and here we all are trying to escape it now. but alas, calgary has nothing to offer me during the summer months. an la trip has been lingering on my mind, but there is so much of the world left to see. then again we finally confirmed our trip to burning man in august, behold my excitement, so maybe waiting till winter and then going off to a sunny destination is another option. big decisions ahead. and a visit to the lonely planet website is in order. i hope you are all enjoying the nice weather. xoxo

tyler: buke and gase

the weather here has been so dreary lately that i’ve caught myself listening to little that isn’t slow or sleepy. today i said “enough!” and was determined to find something new with a bit of kick to it, and so i did. buke and gase is a brooklyn duo consisting of arone dyer and aron sanchez. the two are hardly typical. if you ever see buke and gase (named after the instruments they play) during a live show, you’re most likely to see dyer sitting with a baritone ukelele in her lap and some assortment of bells and pedals laying on and around her feet, as sanchez sits across from her playing his own guitar/bass hybrid while stomping on drums with one foot and effects with the other. at very least they are an interesting, punchy two-piece that are high on concept, and i’ll take that any day of the week. check out their latest song below.

the @calgaryexpo universe

it's like nothing you've ever seen, it's like entering another world. all of a sudden nothing seems out of place or weird or in any way like it doesn't fit in. everyone is allowed to nerd out. even if the word nerd no longer seems in any way offensive or undesirable (how many times have you used it as a way to exaggerate your obsession with something or other) there is no shame in it at the calgary expo. after this years event it seems like calgary finally achieved greatness in something other than rodeos and oil extraction. so yea, too bad it's nothing to do with fashion BUT it may actually find it's place among world class events like the san diego comic con, and even those who are not even slightly interested in comics know what that is. as to the future of the expo, the word is going around to bring the cast of star wars, and who knows, down the line, maybe even panels and previews to yet unreleased engagements. all i know is my heart started beating really fast and it felt great. we rubbed shoulders with lance henriksen (aka bishop of the alien fame) and brent spinner (data from star trek next generation), saw patrick stewart and james marsters, got transported (click here for photographical evidence) and bought a ton of comic books. there was an usual turn of events this year for the expo. with the fire marshal shutting down the premises due to fire code violations, the lineups the following day were counting tens of thousands of people, going around three to four blocks and back again. so thank you calgary expo for hosting aniab.net and giving us the opportunity to experience yet another great year with superheros and fanatics alike. next year, i'm dressing up, and that's a fact. for those interested in attending next year's expo visit www.calgaryexpo.com xoxo
